Optically Tunable Terahertz Metasurfaces Using Liquid Crystal Cells Coated with Photoalignment Layers

An optically tunable terahertz filter was fabricated using a metasurface-imbedded liquid crystal (LC) cell with photoalignment layers in this work. The LC director the is aligned by pump beam and makes angles ? of 0, 30, 60 90° respect to gaps split-ring resonators (SRRs) metasurface under various polarized directions beam. Experimental results display that resonance frequency increases an increase ?, has tuning region 15 GHz. Simulated reveal arises from birefringence LC, 0.13 region. shifted beam, so filter. promising for applications telecommunication, biosensing imaging.
